"Of course, during high summer in Madrid and the south of Spain where the midday heat becomes intolerable, the only sensible thing to do is rest until the temperature drops and one can return to work. Otherwise, a one hour lunch break is increasingly typical for Spanish workers."

"Regionalism is a key influence on the relatively low numbers of Spanish executives relocating away from home."

" In Spanish organisations, particularly in the private sector, it is not unusual to gain entry or promotion through a 'connection', or enchufe (literally translated as a `plug'). In northern Europe, this may seem to be nepotism, but in Spain it is all part of networking and reliance on personal loyalties and relationships."

"...but it is almost impossible to get anything done in Spain in August, as many companies close down or run with few staff. Most cities, towns and villages celebrate a week of fiestas in the summer when the entire population dedicates itself to having a good time with family and friends, dancing, drinking and eating into the night. Alternatively, some families escape to the beach or mountains during the festivities."
